Tech Data is a small, hands-on team, and that shapes the work more than anything else we could tell you about the job. There is no layer of people between you and the client. You will know who uses what you build, because at some point you will speak to them, and you will still be looking after it a year later.

For the right person that is the appeal. Your work goes live and matters quickly, you see a project from first conversation through to the version running three years on, and you learn how systems behave in the real world rather than only how they are supposed to behave. For someone who wants a narrowly defined role with clear edges, it is honestly the wrong environment, and we would rather say that now.

The work spans more ground than a specialist role at a larger firm. In one week you might be tracing a network fault at a client site, adding a feature to a learning platform, and explaining to a college principal why something takes as long as it does. We would rather work with people who are curious across that range than people who are expert in exactly one part of it.

Our clients are largely schools, colleges, NGOs and owner-run businesses. The systems we build carry qualifications, funding reports and payrolls, and people notice immediately when they break. That is a good discipline to learn under, and it means care and clear communication count for as much here as raw technical speed.
